Inevitably, modernist works will run counter to many viewers' expectations. They'll ask, 'What is it about?' And the reply must be: this art is about nothing but itself.
For my final project for my degree I have been researching jugs, from the earlier times all the way through to the jugs of the future. I've found the decorative Wedgwood pottery particulary interesting, and how I'd be able to alter these in different ways to create my own, individual type of jug.
Ar gyfer fy mhrosiect olaf i'r gradd yn Serameg rwyf fi wedi bod yn ymchwilio jwgiau, o'r 19ain Ganrif i'r 21ain Ganrif ac i'r dyfodol. Rwyf fi wedi cael fy nhynnu tuag at Crochenwaith Wedgwood, a sut y bydd hi'n bosibl eu newid mewn gwahanol ffyrdd i ddarlunio jygiau newydd, modern fy hunan.
I want to create a body of work that is successful in design, in its simplicity and its absence of decoration and ornament. They are to be well-executed and take inspiration from the abstract Modernist and Cubist movements.
Rwyf i am greu gwaith sy'n llwyddiannus yn eu dyluniadau, yn eu symlrwydd ac yn eu syniad o absenoldeb o addurn. Mae'n rhaid iddynt fod wedi ei gorffen yn dda, ac yn cymryd ysbrydoliaeth o'r symudiadau modernaidd a chiwbaidd.
I am to look at why decoration is used, and why form by itself will not be enough for many artists. I will look at how the modernists made a conscious decision not to add colour, or be very selective of colour in their work, and how this changed their views on Fine Art and Ceramics.

Recently I have been looking at how I can re-shape the old jugs of the 20th Century, by folding and altering them. Then I re-design the forms from these jugs, adding decoration to some to make them a post-modernist glance on the jug, and some plainly based on the form only. The Modernist glance on the jugs are above and the post-modernist below.
